July update

There have been a few recent developments with CBS.

i) Membership continue to increase at a slow but steady pace.

ii) It has been suggested that we introduce a membership category for trainees, charging only £50 /yr if paid by direct debit. Comments please.

iii) I have signed a contract of mutual understanding with Indigo in which they agree to fund administrative support for CBS in return for which they will be active on Board of Surgical Expert and CBS will introduce Indigo to all new members. A copy of the agreement will be put on the web site

iv)  The attached job description for Admin / Membership Manager has been advertised. Short listing will take place towards the end of the month and interviews are scheduled for the 7th August. If you wish to be involved or know someone who might be interested in this post let me know as soon as possible.

iv) I had a very constructive meeting with Mark Henley. I hope our collaboration will prove of mutual benefit to both Indigo and CBS..

v) The Certification Office have accepted our returns for 2018/19. The documentation will be put on the web site

vi) The web site lists all Founder members

viii) One of our members recently wrote expressing concern that despite having been completely exonerated at a MPTS hearings the details of the case remain listed on the GMC web site for 12 months. I attach e mail correspondence relating to this as well as a recent letter sent to the GMC. Any comments or similar experiences would be welcome.

ix) CBS has generated much interest in breast group and Yorkshire Regional surgeons. I have been asked to address NW surgeons later this year

x) “How to be a Consultant Surgeon” meeting

The suggestion that we hold a meeting on this topic generated much interest.  Richard Lovegrove from Worcester has kindly agreed to organise. It is scheduled for Wednesday 4th December in the Edinburgh College offices in Birmingham. We are limited to 50 places so please register your interest as soon as possible (to Richard, Carolyn Capps or myself  (richard.lovegrove@nhs.net, secretariat@fssa.org.uk, johnmacfie@aol.com) . Cavendish Medical have already agreed to talk about the NHS pensions debacle and the dreaded taper.

xi) when we have appointed a “membership manager” we will be in a position to start identifying those surgeons who would be willing to have their names placed on our list of “Surgical experts”. See web site for latest version of this initiative. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting with this proposal.

xii) on the basis of the above we will in next few months start to advertise the fact that CBS is able to assist surgeons in trouble. In the meantime if you know of anyone please let us know

Comments please
