CBS Announces Women in Surgery Conference Essay winners

The Women in Surgery conference (run by the UCL Surgical Society) aims to inspire women to pursue surgery by tackling the gender imbalances in the field demonstrated by the fact that only 11% of all surgeons are women, and to address the ways that the UK surgical training pathway could better accommodate the needs of women.

The Confederation of British Surgery was delighted to support the WinS conference by sponsoring the essay competition and set the title:

"What can surgical associations do to encourage more women to pursue a career in surgery?"

The essays were judged by a panel, including Miss Shireen McKenzie who is a CBS Executive Board Member, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and Head of Secondary Care and Co-Lead Yr 3 MBchB at Leeds Medical School.

The winners of the essay competition are announced as:

 .. read Sukhbir's essay

.. read Belle's essay

.. read Fiona's essay

CBS wishes the prize winners, and all participants of the essay competition, a glowing future in their chosen profession.
