The following letter has been sent by Patrick Magennis to Nigel Mercer, President of FSSA. It has as yet not been agreed by all Presidents in the FSSA (Federation of Surgical Speciality Assocoations). Half Price Foundation Membership of CBS the New Surgical Union

FSSA will refund half of the £500 Lifetime Foundation Membership fee for first 3 new members from each participating member surgical specialty associations, who join the Confederation of British Surgery before the end of June.

Background

John MacFie, as President of the FSSA, recognised that the current medical unions do not represent surgeons and their teams. With the support of the FSSA, and through hard work and a vision for the future, John has succeeded in CBS being certified as a new union, aimed specifically at surgeons and surgical teams. The amount of work needed to set up a new union is enormous and only someone with John’s dynamism could have managed the task. The FSSA supported setting up the union in 2017 unanimously and recognised the value a surgical union will have to the family of surgery. To enable CBS to have a strong future, it needs new, enthusiastic members from across the family of surgery.

First Come First Served for 3 New Members from Each Surgical Specialty

The FSSA continues to recognise that a vigorous surgical union can only be beneficial to the family of surgery and, in this context, makes the following offer.

Foundation members of the CBS can join for a life-time fee of £500. For the first 3 new members from each of the participating FSSA member associations, who join the CBS by the end of June 2019, the FSSA will refund half their subscription or make a donation to CORESS (the COnfidential REporting System for Surgery) of the same amount.

Applications are made via the CBS website. Indicate your Specialty Association and whether your wish to receive the refund or have a donation made in your name to CoReSS.
